October 3, 2006

(Ottawa) - Carleton University and the University of Ottawa are hosting GO ENG GIRL events on Saturday October 14, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carleton University (English) and the University of Ottawa (bilingual). As well, on the same day, Algonquin College (English) and La Cité collégiale (French) are hosting GO TECH GIRL events. The Carleton event is being held in the Minto Centre.

“Local post secondary institutions are hosting these initiatives in order to inspire girls to consider careers in science, engineering, and technology and to connect the next generation of potential researchers with today's leaders,” says Carleton University Professor Monique Frize who is a recipient of the Ministry of Research and Innovation, Youth Science and Technology Outreach Program (YSTOP) three-year grant.

Carleton University and the University of Ottawa will host separate events to accommodate 250 grade seven to ten students. The students will get a chance to test out their engineering abilities with hands on civil and chemical engineering related activities. They will also meet with women engineer role models who will talk about what they do, why they love their job, and how they got there.
