THE TRUCE La Truega
Mexico, 2003, 103 minutes. • Director: Alfonso Rosas Priego

Set in the Gulf Coast town of Vera Cruz and based on a novel by Mario Benedetti, TRUCE is an absorbing family drama starring Adriana Fonseca as Laura, a young woman facing big decisions. What she once thought was her solid family seems to be falling apart. Its gentle patriarch, Vega, drifting past middle age, is just about ready to retire when offered the No. 2 job at the big shipping company where he’s the top accountant. At the same time, new secretary Laura rekindles dormant feelings and prompts him to pay more attention to his kind-hearted, college-student daughter and two sons, all caught in their own problems. Preceded by AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD/Emunho (Directors: Rafael Kohen, Jose Pederson, Flavio Netto, Agu Netto. Paraguay, 2004, 5 min.) This classic animated short presents a unique vision of the world since the earliest beginnings of time. The evolutionary ruminations are seen through the eyes of Wilky Doharata, Shaman of the Tomárâho Tribe. English sub-titles.
